Carol Gunnerson Scholarship
One scholarship is awarded each year to a Coachella Valley high school senior, with service, character and positive impact on the Adaptive/Special Needs Community at the heart of the selection process.

Kelsey’s Heroes gives children and young adults with special needs the opportunity to participate in sports and activities in a safe, welcoming and family-centered environment.
Our athletes may live with Down syndrome, autism, motor challenges, physical disabilities or other developmental and neurodivergent needs. What matters here is not a diagnosis—it is the person. Every participant deserves the chance to move, learn, laugh, make friends and be part of a community without judgment, teasing or exclusion.
Through sports, social experiences and shared activities, the program supports healthy physical development, emotional confidence, mental well-being and social connection.

From athletic programs to parties, community events, outings and trips, Kelsey’s Heroes creates opportunities for participants and families to connect, have fun and experience life together.

Baseball, softball, basketball, swimming, bowling and other opportunities to move, learn and participate.

Parties, special events, community outings and trips create memories beyond the playing field.
A Safe Community
Participants can build friendships, confidence and social skills around people who accept them for who they are.
Volunteers and Donors Keep This Mission Alive.
The program remains free because people in the community choose to stand behind it. Volunteers help create safe, memorable experiences for athletes and families. Donors help provide the resources that make sports, events, outings and other opportunities possible.
Their time, generosity and support are what allow Kelsey’s Heroes to continue growing while keeping participation free for the families we serve.
